8 Hunger Games Character Posters Released

We’ve been focusing all of our energy on patiently waiting for the upcoming release of a full trailer for The Hunger Games, so these 8 character posters took us by (a very pleasant) surprise!

Lionsgate, via 8 different websites today, released posters for the following Hunger Games characters: Katniss, Peeta, Gale, Haymitch, Effie, Cinna, Rue and Cato. How amazing are these!?

  2. Is it ok to admit that these posters brought tears to my eyes?!?! I’m in fangirl heaven!!! There’s the boy with the bread!! My Cinna is perfectly understated!! Rue breaks my heart! Haymitch- I didn’t know what to expect but it’s perfection!!! Gah!!! I love them all!!

  3. How amazing!!!! I almost cried when I saw Rue’s. They are fantastic. I want to get them all! This is making me so excited for the movie. How are we suppose to wait until March now?

  4. WOW! They’re all perfect! I love them! Can’t wait for the movie now! They look so much like I imagined! The only one I’m not feeling 100 % is Cato, but still, so amazing!!!

  5. LOVE the poster concepts! Everyone looks great, but I pictured Haymitch as bald and not as groomed. I must be the only one who thinks the Peeta poster doesn’t look like Josh! :(

  6. Wow, amazing pictures. Has any one else notice that the picture of Katniss face to the right while everyone else faces to the left? Interesting, any thoughts?

  11. I am seriously disappointed that Effie doesn’t have a FULL head of pink hair. She looks just like Elizabeth, in any movie poster she’s ever been in, with a single pink highlight.

  12. Katniss doesn’t look like JLaw and Peeta kinda doesn’t look like Josh, but they are nice posters… a little too photoshopped as they’re faces are without blemish or freckles! But still nice. :)

  14. I’m glad Effie doesn’t have a full head of pink hair. I don’t know how well that (or dyed skin, for that matter) would translate to the big screen. None of us want to see the Capitol occupied by full-grown oompa loompa look-a-likes. What’s more important is to properly communicate to the viewing audience the vanity of all those in the Capital, and you can do that without being so out-there as to turn people off to the film before they see it.

    All of these are great, but I think I like Rue’s the best.

    • Effie turned out to be my favorite, and I know exactly what you mean about all of the Capitol fashions not translating very well into live action. But I’m pretty sure that Effie does have a full head of very pale pink hair here and the bright pink in the corner is a hat of sorts.

  17. OMG! They are ALMOST perfect! I love Rue, Peeta and Katniss! Cato, Effie and Gale (even though Liam doesn’t look at all as I imagined Gale) are also pretty good =D

    But I never pictured Haymitch with long hair o.o He reminds me of Prince Charming of Shrek haha!

    And Cinna, well, Lenny is totally the opposite of my Cinna, but he looks nice, I suppose.

    I did not picture Haymitch with blonde hair at all. or that long of hair either, actually.
    But they are so cool and now I’m even more excited for the movie! I hope they’ll do ones for foxface and prim as well.

  20. Am I the only one who think that Cinna looks more like Leny Kravits than a caracter? I know that he’s supposed to look normal but still, too normal for me! Otherwise I loved all the posters.

    • I SO agree. He’s just a TAD bit too normal. I get that his taste of being normal may get people to like him, but I guess I feel like in The Capitol, anyone THAT understated would be considered a freak of something… Still, the gold eyeliner is SPOT on.

  22. I had been worried that the people from the Capitol would come off a little too “cartoon-y” rather than vain and superficial. This picture of Effie makes me feel soo much better about how they are going to deal with the hair colors, skin colors, tattoos, modifications, etc. I feel like if they go full color with everything, it will make it harder for people who don’t know the books very well to understand that they’re not clowns or freaks…

  24. i Love those posters and it’s not to much Photoshop those Pictures are perfection

    First of all if they print them for cinemas those have to be blown up and you don’t want pimples the seize of a football

    Second the style they used needed this ever Seen the moon with a telescope and it’s landscapes with all those holes? Not fit for a Movie promotion

    Third its brilliant to show them like this cause the capitol controls its own perfection by presenting everything better than it is

  25. These posters are amazing. I’ve been trying to take them all in, the entire day.

    ONE: Thank you to The Hob, for posting them ALL in one place, for our viewing pleasure. TWO: holy crap they look awesome. THREE: Rue’s poster kills me inside. It really gets that point across of how The Capitol ruins the lives of sweet, innocent children. FOUR: Every single make-up and hair style decision made here is brilliant. I’m putting all of my faith on the film creators/artists. I’m sure they had to compromise some things, but in the end, they’re going to make something AMAZING for all us to enjoy and watch over, and over again. PLEASE BELIEVE.

    Again, I can’t get enough of these posters. Can’t wait for them to come out in stores. Say whaaaaa!!

  27. I think they used photoshop to add an element of clean and slickness and modernity to it. Besides, it reminds me of how the capitol overdoes everything. I love it!

  29. I absolutely love these! Effie is my favorite! As for her hair, I remember seeing an illegal paparazzi photo of her and her hair was in fact a pale pink. :)

  30. What a nice birthday surprise! I like how Rue looks, but Haymitch was totally unexpected. I though he was brunet. All the pictures up close look kind of creepy. They’re amazing.

  31. I love Katniss. JLaw will prove so many people wrong. I LOVE Peeta’s hair color. This is the definitely the best example of his hair we’ve had so far and it is perfect. Gale is fine, there’s nothing great nor awful. The only thing I can think of is that his hair is a TAD too short and his eyes are a tad too green but his facial structure is practically exact from my memory, so the two minor details above are unimportant. Haymitch… well’s let’s just say I’m not digging the hair. At all. The blonde doesn’t make sense to me… He’s from the Seam. And the length just isn’t what I pictured. But the scruff is THE perfect length. It tells you he could be a drunk, but also shows his cleaner side. Effie’s picture is haunting. I can’t decide if I love it or hate it, but it’s sorta scary. I wish her hair was pinker, and her skin less white. But the makeup is GREAT and whoever designed that dress deserves to win the Academy Award for Costuming. (And if they deliver with the Girl on Fire dress, the interview dress, etc. than how CAN’T they win it?) I think part of what makes me dislike Effie’s is the lighting. It doesn’t go well. I’m sure in average lighting in would look less like a ghost and more like how I think the negative people imagined. Cinna look like Lenny Kravitz wearing gold eyeliner. They could’ve done more and still had him be understated, but like I said in a comment above, the eyeliner is 110% perfect. Rue is breathtaking. She looks so young and innocent, yet mature and wise beyond her years. It’s stunning. And to think of her dying… It’s easy to imagine why Katniss did what she did. I LOVE the casting they did, there’s a few roles I think would have been better done by others but I still like who was chosen, but Amandla… If someone created something that could design the perfect Rue, the result would be her clone. And Cato is… nothing special. But he seems too… nice. Like the popular, nice, football captain, Troy Bolton/Finn Hudson/stereotypical main character or any book that has to do with high school sports. I couldn’t see him doing what he does. But then again, maybe that says something. Maybe the Basketball Team Captain, Troy Bolton of Panem is a ruthless killer. It’s “cool” and “popular” in that society… and that’s basically HSM, right? That could be an incredibly strong statement if that’s the choice they go for Cato.

  32. Overall, this just makes me more excited. (Is that even possible?) They did a GREAT job, and I think fans will be happy. This truly makes up for the teaser trailer, which did NOTHING for me, except for seeing JLaw and her archery skills. (Someone was complaining that the arrow just “appeared in her hands” and that they cut the bit of her reaching for it so it would look faster, but someone else took it still by still and saw that she actually did get it, she was just SO fast that it looks like it magically appears. JLaw is a natural archer, I guess.)

  37. I’m so excited about the posters!
    My absolute favorite is Rue. She just looks so innocent. Another pleasant surprise was Cinna. Until now I never saw Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, but now Lionsgate sold it to me. I hope Effie’s hair will be more pink in the movie but otherwise I love hair look.
    The biggest disappointment for me is Haymitch. I didn’t imagine him like this at all. Why the long blond hair?? I rather imagined his hair cut like the one Woody Harrelson has in real life.

    • I think his acting will probably come through to show the disheveled Haymitch. They will probably make him look more ragged as well, I imagine all these “photos” were taken to make them look prim and proper for the capitol.

  44. I like them all except for Peeta’s. he just looks too young. how am i supposed to root for a Katniss/Peeta romance when Peeta looks like a boy, whereas Gale and Katniss look like a man and a woman? based on these pics i’d find Katniss and Gale to be a much more possible and romantic couple since Peeta kind of looks like he could be their younger brother. this was the issue i was worried about from the begining.. i really like the rest of them though. I think Elizabeth as Effie is great.

    • I also agree with this unfortunately, I think Peeta looks too young and small as well. Or maybe it’s that Katniss is too old… I don’t know. either way it seems like an odd looking couple. these are just side profiles though, perhaps they will look better from the front? Cinna also looks a lot different than I pictured, I pictured him as a pastey white guy! haha. Oh well, I like Lenny, I think I could warm up to him as Cinna.

      • I actually think Peeta looks amazing. (In other pictures of the preview screenshots he looks older then he does in this poster image) But, regardless in the books I sort of imagined him to be a little less MADLY HANDSOME and more “homely boy next door that has always loved you but watched you from afar” type.
        Come on, he is supposed to look sweet…he’s a baker.

      • Then Katniss is too old looking because she and Peeta are the same age and Gale is two years older than them

  46. Wow! I think these all look so amazing T_T. They fit so well. I think Katniss, Peeta and Gale are really just spot on. I am so glad they found the perfect looks for them.
    My favorite poster is Rue’s though. I better sob in the movie or they didn’t do it right.
    Whoa, Cato is a lot hotter then I imagined him to be. I have a feeling people who didn’t read the book and are going to see the movie are going to be rooting for Cato just because he is so good looking >___> Awkward~ Haha.

  54. OMG!!!!!! I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE!!! I cant WAIt for the movie to come out!!!! The only person I am disappointed in is Cinna. I did NOT imagine him like that at all. Rue and Katniss are my favs. but rue makes me cry! ;( I really hope they capture how awful the capital really is for sending innocent kids to a fight to the death and if they don’t I will be REALLY disappointed. these books will be known as the books that made my laugh cry and just plain get up and through things because i am so mad at the capital for killing all those people! I am TOTALLY going to the premiere! WOOHOO! GO KATNISS! and btw I AM THE NUMBER ONE HUNGER GAMES FAN!!! NO ONE ELSE!!! I WILL SCREAM IT ON LIVE TV!!! I WILL BREAK OUT IN SONG IN THE MALL ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE IT!
