Catching Fire began filming in Hawaii this week, and according to Hawaii News Now, it’s set to wrap on December 22. (This is in line with Lionsgate’s original announcement that filming would be finished by late December.) They are currently filming on Oahu’s North Shore, and filming is also planned in Manoa.
A separate article from Pacific Business News talks about the impact Catching Fire is expected to have on the local Hawaiian economy.
And, while the film, in which star Jennifer Lawrence reprises her “Hunger Games” role as Katniss Everdeen, is shooting in Hawaii for only about four weeks, it will have a “significant impact” on the local economy, according to Hawaii State Film Commissioner Donne Dawson.
“More so than the millions that are going to be spent on production here is, you have the exposure for an extremely popular franchise, so there is the economic benefit from that as well,” she told PBN. “People are following the life of the production and know that they’re shooting out here in Hawaii.”
Yes, thanks to these amazing photos, we definitely know that Catching Fire is shooting in Hawaii. But less than four weeks till it’s over…can you believe it?!
