There are at least two things that the film adaptation of ‘The Hunger Games’ did right: Casting Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and being faithful to the harsh, violent tone of the games themselves. The latter is best on display when the games begin, and it’s everyone for themselves as young players either flee into the woods or get their throats slit. A truly gripping and exciting sequence.
