Exclusive Video: The Hunger Games Cast at The Hob

If you’ve been following us on Twitter today,  you know that multiple Hunger Games cast members stopped by The Hob (the space Lionsgate set up for fans to camp out for the red carpet premiere) today to meet fans, including Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman and Amandla Stenberg.

We talked to Amandla and Isabelle about the movie, shot some quick footage of the cast members signing and meeting campers, and filmed Josh’s message to the hundreds of campers sleeping outside in order to attend the premiere.

What Would You Do to Survive The Hunger Games – Using the Careers

Thanks to a suggestion from Josh Hutcherson, we’re sharing fans’ thoughts on what they would do to survive the Hunger Games as a way to help us all pass the time till the movie hits theaters in March.

We kicked things off last week with The Hunger Games’ Jackie Emerson and our readers Savanah and Nakia describing how they’d use Foxface’s strategy in the Games.

kaliaprescott-2This week, Kalia Prescott (District 3′s Female Tribute in The Hunger Games) tells us how she would survive the Games:

I’d survive the games by crying and clinging to Cato’s leg! Then eventually he might take pity on me and let me be like his little pet! But then, When the careers are sleeping…. I’ll stab them all in the back…. Literally! >:D

We like that strategy! And we’re not the only ones – two of our readers had ideas similar to Kalia’s.

Heather:

What strategies would you use?
I’d be setting a lot of traps, and leaving signs that would put the other tributes on edge – it gets them off their game and therefore easier to pick off. I wouldn’t confront anyone face to face, because that isn’t my style.  I’m more of the behind the scenes, scary-presence type of tribute.

What skills do you have that would help you?
I have a high intelligence, and I’m able to predict what people would do easily.  It’ll help me set my traps in a way that they can’t be destroyed or unarmed.

Which Tribute would your game be most like?
Probably a mix between Foxface and Katniss.  I’d be doing a lot of watching, hunting and setting traps.

Would you team up with other Tributes, and if so, who?
I’d team up with the Careers, solely for the purpose of understanding them better so I can pick them off when I take off one night

Would you be the winner of the Games?
I’d like to think so, I think I have about a 50% chance I do.

Anything else you think is important that would carry you through the Games!
I’d stay away from the Cornucopia but watch the initial fight – you can learn a lot from it

Hunger Games Freak:

What strategies would you use?
My strategy would be sorta like Peeta’s and Foxface’s. Cause in the beginning I would team up with the Careers, then when they start to have only a few people left in the Games, take the food and a weapon or two at night (I would take shift that night so everyone would be sleeping) and leave. I wouldn’t kill any of the Careers cause that would wake everyone else up. Then I would hide in the trees till it comes down to the last two.

What skills do you have that would help you?
Some of my skills is throwing (spears and I know how to make spears). I can be pretty handy with a knife climbing and hiding.

Would you be the winner of the Games?
I would be the winner of the games and I would only tell my mentor my plan so he can save up the money and have my sponsers get me gifts towards the end and I would have plenty of sponsers cause I can act very lovable, giggly and well pretty much talk to anyone! But don’t let it fool you if it comes down to it I will win but I will be taking the captiol with me.

What do you think about using the Careers to help you get ahead? Would you be able to pretend to be on their side, and then turn on them to survive?

What Would You Do to Survive The Hunger Games – Foxface’s Strategy

Last week in an interview with MTV, Josh Hutcherson suggested that “fans should think about what they would do in the Hunger Games and maybe send it to one of the fan sites, try to start that thing and talk about their strategies and what they would do to survive” as a way to pass the time till The Hunger Games hits theaters.

So we decided to do just that! We asked you guys to tell us what you would do to survive the Hunger Games, and we received a bunch of great submissions that we’ll be sharing on our site.

jackieemersonBut to kick things off, we have a special guest! We asked The Hunger Games’ own Foxface, Jackie Emerson, how she would survive the Hunger Games. Here’s what she told us:

I think I would probably pull a Foxface as funny as that is. I would definitely not kill anyone and would probably spend most of my time trying to outwit the other tributes.

If I teamed up with anyone it would probably be someone like Rue because she’s so resourceful. I love being out in nature so I don’t think that would be a problem haha :)

And Jackie’s not the only one who would use Foxface’s strategy in the Games. Here are two of our readers who said they’d do the same.

Savanah:

What strategies would you use?
“Definitely hiding.  As soon as the sound of the gong commences the start of the Games, I would grab what was closes to my feet, but definitely not get anywhere near the Cornucopia.  Five seconds tops and then I’d be heading straight towards the woods (well, whatever terrain would provide me the most coverage- depending on the arena, of course).  Put distance between myself and the other tributes, find a hiding spot, and not worry about anything else at the moment.  Food and water would have to come later.”

What skills do you have that would help you?
“Sadly, I’ve been pampered a lot of my life.  I’ve had a shelter, food provided to me.  I’m not too keen on a lot of survival tips, but I do have very good climbing skills.  If the arena was more woodsy, I’d climb a tree and just pray that another tribute does not have this advantage as well.”

Which Tribute would your game be most like?
“Foxface, without a doubt.  I’ve always admired her for how she competed in the Games, making her my second favorite character of the entire series (only behind Finnick!).  Honestly, I don’t have the heart- or quite frankly, the stomach– to kill another being.  Like Katniss said, you can never go home from the Games.  I couldn’t deal with that on my conscience.  I’d do what I needed to further increase my chance of survival, but would not decrease anyone elses.”

Would you team up with other Tributes, and if so, who?
“It depends on the tribute and the situation.  If it was someone like Rue, sure.  I mean, I wouldn’t know if she was going to pull a Johanna or not but I couldn’t turn down a poor innocent child like that!  If the other tribute had something I desperately needed, I might consider creating an alliance, but I would be extremely wary of his/her actions.  I mean, no matter how sweet they may appear, this is the Hunger Games we are talking about.  Their main goal, no matter what, would be to kill you because you would never know– you and your ally may just end up as the final two.  The Hunger Games are known for their twists and turns so it wouldn’t surprise me.”

Would you be the winner of the Games?
“I feel bad for saying this but no.  Based on the traits I have listed in the previous questions, I very well could get far, but I wouldn’t come out as the winner.  As unfortunate as it is, in order to be a winner, you have to be a killer, and that is not me.  I’m getting a little bit off-topic here, but recently I had a dream (or should I say nightmare?) that I was a part of The Hunger Games.  I ended up killing someone and I hated it.  It was the worst feeling.  I woke up immediately, shaken.  I don’t know how Katniss did it.  I would never be able to live with myself if I won by killing others.  Let someone else deal with my death on their conscience, but I most certainly don’t want theirs on mine.”

Anything else you think is important that would carry you through the Games! “Haha, I guess this would go under “skills”, but I’m known to be extremely quiet!  The urge to talk definitely wouldn’t get to me!”

Nakia:

What strategies would you use?
“First of all, my games would be more like Foxface’s. I am not much of a fighter in real life, I hate confrontations, in fact I dread them. So I’ll just hide and take care of myself instead of hunting the others. I’ll let them kill each other and then I’ll fight with the last one. At the beginning of the game, I wouldn’t go to the Cornucopia, I’m also a slow runner, so I’ll just grab one (and if possible 2) backpacks and go into hiding.

“I think I will consider as well stealing other people’s food, (like the Careers, I’m very dependable when it comes to food) but I mean, it is the Hunger Games. Fight or die. I’ll have to pluck up some courage and cunning and do things I’ll normally wouldn’t do. But I would be very careful of what food I choose. Maybe as more Tributes die, if I’m lucky, I’ll take their weapons, because soon or later I will need them.”

What skills do you have that would help you?
“My skills? Well, I’m not the athletic type, but I’m pretty smart, so instead of hunting them, I would make traps for them, one when they would die slowly, to let them know it was me who did it and give me some satisfaction. When the Games’s up to two Tributes (the other and me) it will be more likely I do a trap, to confuse them and corner them, anything to kill them before I have to finish them myself. I am very vigilant, so if I die, it won’t be because I fell in someone’s trap or ate something poisonous, and that will be a disadvantage for the Careers.

Would you team up with other Tributes, and if so, who?
“And because in the Hunger Games you can’t really trust anything or anyone, I won’t make alliances. I’m too sensitive and kind to team up with someone and then, after we helped and protected each other, kill them. No way. But if I ever change my mind at the last minute, it’ll be with someone from District 3, because they prove to be smart people…some cases anyway (like Beetee) or someone from District 11. I wouldn’t team up with a best friend or a family member (if they’d get reaped too) because at the end, I’ll have to either kill them myself or let anyone or anything kill them. I could sacrifice myself to let them win depending of the situation though.

Would you be the winner of the Games?
I think I’ll have 40 percent to win and 60 percent to die. I guess besides courage and cunning (qualities I don’t really posses) I’ll have to pluck up some confidence as well.”

What do you think about using Foxface’s strategy of hiding and stealing from other Tributes in order to survive? It’s not too late to let us know what you’d do to survive the Hunger Games – get all the details here.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Hunger Games’ Hair Colorist on Peeta, Caesar, Octavia & More

We’ve seen a lot of interviews recently with the folks involved in creating the awesome hairstyles in The Hunger Games, but we noticed they all discussed Katniss’s braid, Effie’s wigs, and the crazy styles of the Capitol citizens …

What about Peeta’s much-anticipated blonde locks? And the shockingly blue hair Caesar Flickerman sports in the trailer? And we’ve heard and seen nothing about the prep team! Plus, one of our admins has been dying to know if she can duplicate Katniss’s gorgeous brown hair?

So we went to the source and spoke with the woman tapped to create The Hunger Games hair colors – Joico colorist Cherry Petenbrink (who most recently talked to Instyle.com about Jennifer Lawrence’s hair color at the Oscar announcement ceremony). Check out our exclusive Q&A with Cherry to find out the answers!

Q: Was there pressure working on Josh Hutcherson’s hair for Peeta since many fans were upset that a brunette was cast instead of a blonde?

Cherry: As soon as I met Josh at my Studio I knew he was perfect for the role of Peeta. Charming and charismatic! One problem, Peeta was described in the books as a sandy blonde while Josh was a dark brunette. I definitely had my work cut out!

Q: Was it a difficult process to get the right shade of blonde, and how did you determine how light to go?

Cherry: It was clear based on the vision of Director Gary Ross his hair could NOT be yellow or orange. I decolorized in two separate visits, didn’t want to alert paparazzi either. The goal was to achieve sandy ash blonde and not trash his hair. Joico Creme Lightener has extra emollients and conditioners to guarantee lift, tone and amazing condition. His hair required retouching and toning every 8 weeks.

Q: After all that work, do you think you ended up with the right color?

Cherry: Everyone was thrilled with the end result. I did return Josh to his natural color when The Hunger Games wrapped.

Q: What led you to create the blue ponytail for Stanley Tucci’s character? It’s a beautiful color!

Cherry: The only role I played in Stanley’s wig/look was to add highs and lows with Joico Vero K-PAK chrome guaranteed to keep the human hair wig in amazing condition. The goal was to create a more dimensional blue versus one overwhelming tone of blue. It was a very expensive custom made wig. This was the most stressful of all the color work I did, no room for error.

Q: Were you involved in the decision to create the much-loved Seneca Crane beard we see a glimpse of in the trailer?

Cherry: I had nothing to do with that amazing beard. That was the Make-up Dept.

Q: Did you have a favorite color/character to work on in The Hunger Games?

Cherry: Effie’s wig colors were spectacular, however the prep team stylists were the most fun. With not a lot of direction there was much more creative freedom with color. Octavia’s hair especially, with magenta hair and purple achieved with pink and indigo Joico Semi permanent Intensity color.

Q: Are all of the colors you used in the movie available to consumers or at salons? (One of our admins wants Jennifer’s Katniss hair color!)

Cherry: All of the hair color I used is professional only and available at Joico Salons – visit Joico.com for a salon locator to find salons who offer our amazing color and products. Jen’s hair is a Natural level 5 (5N) Vero K-PAK color. Effie’s colors can be recreated with Joico semi permanent INTENSITY COLORS clear with a drop of desired shade to create pastel. If intense vibrant colors (The Capitol) is what you’re looking for, don’t dilute with clear.

Thanks so much to Cherry for answering our questions! We loved learning about the process of making Josh a blonde, Stanley’s expensive wig, and Octavia’s magenta hair!

Official Color Samples for Lionsgate’s ‘Colours from the Capitol’ Nail Polish

We posted a couple days ago that Lionsgate had officially announced a nail polish line called “Colours from the Capitol” in partnership with China Glaze to tie-in with The Hunger Games movie release.

Now we have a look at the 12 official color samples for the line. What do you think!?

Here’s the information Lionsgate previously provided on the nail polish line:

In keeping with the powerful themes and messages of the story, the collection of nail polish will be inspired exclusively by one of the book’s distinct settings- the Capitol of the nation of Panem. Awash in lavish fashion, food, and entertainment, Capitol citizens enjoy extreme cosmetics and body modifications, bold wigs, and outlandish costumes.

The nail polish will be available at specialty beauty retailers beginning on March 1, 2012.

Update: While this line is called “Colours from the Capitol,” we noticed a very clear connection between some of the names and the Districts, such as Agro and District 11. But one of our brilliant readers, Ariel, noticed that, in fact, every name lines up pretty nicely to a District! Check it out:

Lionsgate put us through the full hair and makeup treatment, then interviewed us about our thoughts on the fandom, the appeal of the books, casting for the movie, adapting the book into a movie, and much more. What’s crazy is that as soon as we wrapped, we saw the movie’s hair designer Linda Flowers and set decorator Larry Dias waiting to be interviewed next! Plus we know that Lionsgate interviewed nearly all of the tributes and a ton of other folks involved with the film, including the casting director and the costume designer.

Jennifer Lawrence Outside the Late Show with David Letterman

watermarked1-2

A couple of The Hob’s Admins were lucky enough to meet Jennifer after the taping of the Late Show with David Letterman in New York today.

As soon as Jennifer arrived she came across the street and started signing stuff for fans before heading into the studio. After taping her interview, she came back out to greet the fans again. Her reps were moving her along pretty quickly so she wasn’t able to stop and take pics with fans (unfortunately!), but it was great that she made such an effort to at least say hi to everyone. She was beautifully dressed, tanned and looking gorgeous! Plus we’re loving the dark hair.

Don’t forget to tune into David Letterman tonight to see Jennifer’s interview!

Update: More photos added after the cut!
