Our admin team talked for some time about partnering with an official charity with the hopes of supporting and becoming actively involved with a cause that would raise awareness within The Hunger Games community. After extensive research and discussion, we decided to partner with WhyHunger.
WhyHunger’s mission statement:
“Building the movement to end hunger and poverty by connecting people to nutritious, affordable food and by supporting grassroots solutions that inspire self-reliance and community empowerment.”
We felt WhyHunger would be the perfect fit for us since it supports recurring themes from The Hunger Games trilogy. So many of the characters from our beloved book series deal with the same kind of issues that people in the United States and all over the world struggle with today: hunger and poverty. We hope to spread awareness, volunteer our time, and raise money for this worthy cause! Won’t you join us in our attempt to fight hunger?
The Hob’s Hunger Games Charity Event
To help raise awareness of and funds for WhyHunger, we hosted a sold-out charity viewing of The Hunger Games in New York City around the movie’s midnight release on March 23, 2012. Through a combination of raffle prizes donations and a signed-banner auction, we raised $4,850 for WhyHunger.

As our first project with WhyHunger in June 2011, we put together a video for WhyHunger’s campaign to honor its founder, the late singer/songwriter Harry Chapin. This is our pledge to do something to fight hunger and poverty. Our video can also be seen on WhyHunger’s YouTube Channel as part of their campaign to continue the work of Harry Chapin.
